JOB SUMMARY
Ability to assess new technologies, perform engineering tasks in development and QA environments to ensure that a GA-ready product is available, and act as first tier Subject Matter Expert support in troubleshooting situations. The position's responsibilities include analysis, design, programming, unit and integration testing of new or existing products/systems. The Software Engineer, Systems must have the ability to execute systems development projects with minimal technical direction. The Software Engineer, Systems must be able to produce high quality, high performance software that meets company’s software development standards.
SENIOR SOFTWARE ENGINEER
Essential Functions:
(80%) Design, Code, Test, Document software
o Designs and documents internal and/or external functionality.
o Analyzes and documents impact and dependencies of the product or feature on other areas of the system.
o Documents the unit testing and functional testing.
o Obtains review and approval of the design document before proceeding to implementation.
o Translates design into code following company standards for product quality and maintainability.
o Develops code derived from a design document using appropriate development standards.
o Develops repair code derived from a prioritized Program Trouble Report.
o Obtains peer review of the code.
o Performs unit testing of the code and performs integration level testing with other features or products in the system.
o Documents the final implementation of the design.
o Documents changes required for the deliverable product (manuals, release notes, etc.).
o Transmits the code to the appropriate system code branch.
o May be given complex assignments of larger scope.
o Typically functions at the project level and projects may encompass most all areas of new or existing systems level
(20%) Works within a Software Development Team
o Provides technical expertise for pre-sales support of customers on implementation and operational issues.
o Develops and maintains knowledge of Lawson’s products and services as well as it competitor’s products and services.
LEAD SOFTWARE ENGINEER
Essential Functions:
(80%) Design, Code, Test, Document software
o Assists in the successful resolution of extremely complex tasks that impact multiple products/systems, or multiple complex tasks, where analysis of situations or data requires an evaluation of intangible variables.
o Exercises independent judgment in developing methods and techniques for obtaining results
(20%) Leads and works within a Software Development Team
o Leads small development and/or operational teams consisting of other engineers as needed. Provides meaningful decomposition of work for the development project.
o Provides technical leadership of development projects.
o Coordinates the technical work effort across a development team.
o Provides input to the manager on priorities of detailed work items.
o Provides for overall technical coherence of a project.
o Provides second tier technical expertise to the application development, product maintenance, and customer support organizations in the company.
o Sells technical ideas across organizations
o Provides original thinking and creativity in the solution of systems problems and design issues.
o Must be able to plan, organize, prioritize, and schedule current and future work to meet schedules.
o Organizes and performs work according to priorities in consultation with the management.
o Acts independently to determine methods and procedures used to solve difficult tasks.
o Provides technical guidance to or supervision of others.
o Mentors other engineers.
