JOB SUMMARY: Want a role to support our clients in the Amazon cloud? Reporting to the Team Lead, our Cloud Database Administrators are key members of a 24x7x365 follow the sun Cloud Operations team. Responsible for responding to incidents, the Database Administrator works on mission critical application supporting some of the world’s largest enterprises across the globe. As part of this team you will be on the vanguard of ensuring our clients are successful utilizing their applications.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Works as part of a cross-functional team to conduct proactive monitoring, remote diagnostic investigation and maintenance activities on our SQL Server database systems
• Act as an escalation point for all incidents involving SQL Server and Oracle database environments
• Provides operations support by responding to inbound calls/emails from a wide variety of client organizations and external groups performing the necessary support required to resolve issues
• Provide support during large scale outages and disaster recovery efforts
• Identify, research, and develop Database process improvements and recommends them to management for implementation
• Create, use and maintain resource documentation for reference and troubleshooting problems
• Create change requests in accordance with change management policy
• Work with internal groups to create reports on up time, Service Levels, server utilization, and other key metrics as directed
• Provide recommendations to improve the customer experience
• This position operates in a 24x7x365 environment. Shift work and the ability to participate in an on-call rotation as needed is required
• Successfully completes training requirements based on career development plan and assists in the development and training of others
• Performs other duties as assigned
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
• 3-8 years of experience with SQL Server 2012/2008 R2/2008
• 3+ years of experience on production deployment is a MUST.
• 5 years of demonstrated database expertise with the ability to successfully complete the toughest engagements and handle the most troublesome client situations.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
• Experience in SQL Server administration, managing clusters and database monitoring
• Excellent problem solver
• Experience in performance tuning and optimization, using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools
• Expert in troubleshooting and resolving database problems
• Experience in automation using scripts
• Knowledge of indexes, index management, statistics, data-at-rest encryption, secure connectivity
• Experience working with Windows server, including proper disk configurations
• Experience with compliance and securing systems to meet compliance requirements
• Experience in establishing Recovery Time Objectives (RTO) and Recovery Point Objectives (RPO)
• Experience with incident management including total outages
PREFERRED SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE:
• Formal large scale development experience or large scale production experience
• Understanding of enterprise application design and issues related to data access and management
• Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS)
• Thrives in a high paced and energetic team.
• Certification is a plus; MCTS, MCITP, MVP, ITIL v3 Foundations
• PostgreSQL DBA
