JOB POSITION: Senior Software Engineer

JOB LOCATION: St. Paul, MN

JOB SUMMARY: Performs product development and implementation of new functionality, programming, bug corrections, release testing, and beta support which may require research and analysis for our newly initiated Federal Accounting package. May assist in performing on-site client work. Operates under general supervision. Does not typically have management responsibilities such as hiring, firing, performance appraisals, and pay reviews; however, may assist with such decisions and activities.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Performs moderately complex product development, systems analysis and programming activities which may require some research and analysis:
• Performs development, implementation and maintenance of single product modules/sub-systems or on lower level issues of multiple products.
• Prepares technical documentation of product modules/sub-systems.
• Conducts unit testing and integration testing for functionality and limits.
• Assist with estimation and planning activities
• Participate in reviewing deliverables from other development teams, including designs, test plans, and documentation help identify and resolve gaps between requirements and technical design
• Performs moderately complex bug verification, release testing and beta support for assigned products. Researches problems discovered by QA or product support and develop solutions to the problems.
• May assist in performing on-site client work on moderately complex applications.
• Researches and understands the marketing requirements for a product, including target environment, performance criteria and competitive issues.
• Researches new technology or development tools to remain informed of current technology.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
• Bachelor's degree or similar in software engineering or computer science.
• Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of technical experience in product design, programming and product support.
• Good technical knowledge in software development methodologies, design, programming and implementation.
• Good analytical and design skills at multiple product level.
• Good skills in research and analysis, project planning and implementation.
• Good understanding of entire development process, including specification, documentation and quality assurance.
• Aware of business issues as they impact overall project plans.
• Good communications and interpersonal skills.
• Advanced PC skills.
• Helps to mentor less experienced employees in addition to fostering teamwork

REQUIRED SKILLS:
• May determine methods and procedures used on new assignments.
• Translates the System Requirement Specifications into detailed technical design
• Obtains review and approval of the technical design document before proceeding to implementation
• Designs quality application programs using various development methodologies.
• Analyzes and prepares technical requirements for new development and current products.
• Performs technical application consulting and support for clients.
• Documents program modifications, test plans, user requirements and other relevant information.
• Installs/upgrades Lawson products.
• Works with a team
• Mentors team members.
• Performs code reviews.

PREFERRED SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE:
• Knowledge of one or more for the position relevant technologies and concepts
• Software development experience
