Coding Supervisor - Health Information Management

Job Summary: Oversees the coding process. Leads development of all coding and audit processes.  Works closely with coders and Oaklawn staff to maintain an understanding of their procedures, processes, and issues.  Works closely with HIM director to achieve coding standards and goals.

Essential Functions:

  • Consistently uses an outward mindset and puts forth exemplary effort in accomplishing his/her goals and objectives in a manner that helps others to achieve their goals and objectives.
  • Analyzes coding and audit related data.  
  • Ensures documentation and process standards for coding.
  • Performs accurate and thorough research for complex coding situations.  
  • Oversees audit and educational training tasks
  • Leads projects and process changes. 

Minimum Qualifications: Associate degree in a related field and two (2) years of medical billing office experience, and CPT and ICD-10 experience, or a commensurate combination of education and experience as determined by Oaklawn Administration. Professional coder certification (CPC®) or equivalent.  

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:  Athena and Cerner experience preferred, along with knowledge of physicians’ billing methods and requirements. Ability to collaborate with coding personnel, OMG offices and leadership. Has excellent oral and written communications skills, and ability to work independently with minimal direction and guidance. Excellent analytical skills, ability to multi-task with several intricate and time sensitive subjects and a general working knowledge of medical terminology.  Athena and Cerner experience preferred, along with knowledge of physicians’ billing methods and requirements. Maintains an understanding of daily coding/billing activity.  

Working Conditions: Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available.

Physical Requirements:  Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require standing and walking for up to 10% of the time.
