Clinical Coordinator – MIH/CCP

JOB TITLE:                Clinical Coordinator – MIH/CCP (Safety Sensitive Position)

REPORTS TO:           Chief of Staff

FLSA CLASS:            Non-Exempt

SALARY RANGE:      $28.53 - $36.37 (offers based on applicable experience)

SUMMARY:

The Clinical Coordinator – MIH/CCP is responsible for developing and advancing the quality of clinical practice through the management, provision and coordination of the clinical quality, education and training activities of the Office of the Medical Director (OMD) specific to the medical direction and oversight of the Mobile Integrated Healthcare & Critical Care Programs.  The Clinical Coordinator – MIH/CCP will work collaboratively with the OMD and MIH team to ensure that the System goals are achieved in accordance with the mission and vision of OMD/EPAB and the MAEMSA.

 

SPECIAL NOTE:  This job has been designated as a Safety Sensitive Position by MedStar. Public safety, as well as the safety of MedStar employees, requires that the employee in this position be able to perform all essential functions at the highest levels at all times.  Therefore, this position is subject to frequent drug testing and requires reporting of all employee use of High Risk Medications identified by MedStar and certification from the employee’s physician that such medications can be safely used while working.  Because MedStar’s ability to deliver emergency medical response depends on having a workforce that can be reliably scheduled, this job also requires regular and reliable attendance.  This is a high-stress job that requires focus, engagement, and high performance in traumatic, physically demanding, emotionally charged, and life-threatening situations.  The position involves exposure to serious and graphic injury to adults and children, including death and dismemberment.  A high level of physical, mental, and emotional health is an essential requirement.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Review patient care provided by MIH, CCP, and ECNS personnel to assure care provided is within the standards of care, medical direction protocols, completeness of clinical information, and accuracy of medical records for care provided - this may include, but is not limited to review of e-pcr, dispatch records, CAD history and hospital outcomes.
  • Compose clinical peer review audits requiring judgment as to compliance to standards of care, medical direction protocols, completeness, and accuracy of medical records for care provided.
  • Coordinate clinical quality investigations, collaborating with MedStar and partner agencies.
  • Develop clinical metrics and reports related to clinical outcomes of MIH programs
  • Maintain appropriate physical and mental health required to perform the essential functions of this job.
  • Provide on-call coverage for On-line Protocol Guidance.
  • Ensure regular and timely physical attendance during assigned work hours.
  • Perform overtime work required in emergencies and as otherwise directed or assigned by the Medical Director or designee.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Assist the Medical Director and other OMD Staff with objective development of clinical improvement plans.
  • Manage the credentialing process of the OMD for MIH/CCP providers.
  • Collaborate with Clinical Outcomes and Research Coordinators in the collection, analysis and validation of clinical data for System diagnostics or clinical research project.
  • Participate in scenario and field evaluations, providing feedback and follow-up for MIH/CCP Providers.
  • Attend quality improvement / assurance and periodic meetings providing clinical input as it relates to case presentation.
  • Work collaboratively with the MedStar and partner agencies to ensure compliance to the clinical quality program.
  • Maintain confidentiality of protected health information in compliance with current HIPAA laws.
  • Work closely with the MIH/CCP program management team.
  • Act as an educational resource for MIH/CCP personnel.
  • Oversee all phases of the MIH/CCP training process.
  • Assist with evaluating all new MIH/CCP hires in all phases of the training process.
  • Evaluate credentialed MIH/CCP provider’s clinical performance, provides feedback, and develops education and remediation plans as necessary, in collaboration with the MIH/CCP management team.
  • Oversee development, implementation, and evaluation of clinical improvement plans for MIH/CCP clinical providers.
  • Stay current on changes, updates, and research in EMS.
  • Collaborate with co-workers, peers and others to develop innovative educational programs designed to meet the needs of the EMS-MIH community and EMS-MIH/CCP providers.
  • Participate in activities that promote the MAEMSA and community partners related to MIH.
  • Assist with other OMD responsibilities and projects as assigned by the Medical Director or designee.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Occasionally: Confined areas, extreme hot and cold, wet and/or humid conditions, noise, vibration, mechanical and electrical equipment, moving objects, high places, fumes/odors/mists, dirt and dust, gasses, toxic conditions, human excrement, blood, urine, mucous, tissue. Frequently works alone, with and around others, face to face and verbal contact, inside and outside temperature changes. Work hours may vary due to office needs.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must not have been excluded by the OIG to Participate in Federally Funded Heath Care Programs
  • Associate’s degree in emergency medical services management, business administration, or other related degree, or equivalent experience.
  • Two years of Critical Care and/or MHP paramedic-level experience in the MedStar or other system.
  • Advanced/MIH credentialing requirements.
  • High level of integrity and objectivity in quality review of clinical care and the ability to provide constructive feedback.
  • Familiarity with report writing and data query systems.
  • Knowledge of EMS theory, practice, and trends.
  • Knowledge of organizational structure, workflow, and operational procedures.
  • Knowledge of adult learning theory and methodologies.
  • Knowledge of competency based educational principles and methods.
  • Familiarity with basic computer applications, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Appropriate time management to ensure that all areas of essential functions are adequately covered.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • No exclusion by the OIG to participate in Federally Funded Heath Care Programs.

 

PREFERRED REQUIRMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in emergency medical services management, business administration, or other related degree, or equivalent experience.
  • Five or more years’ experience as a paramedic in a busy 911 system with at least 3 years in a Critical Care/MIH role.
  • Successful completion of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement Open School Quality Improvement Certification.

Previous experience in developing, implementing and evaluating a credentialing, training, or QA/QI program.
