IS Applications Manager

Job Summary: The Manager of Applications oversees a team of Clinical and Systems Analysts who implement and support, hospital-based and ambulatory solutions as well as the Help Desk function. Experienced in leading various components of complex information system implementations and support, ideally with project management methodology experience.

Essential Functions:

  • Consistently uses an outward mindset and puts forth exemplary effort in accomplishing his/her goals and objectives in a manner that helps others to achieve their goals and objectives.
  • Plans, develops, organizes, implements, directs and evaluates the resources and functions, for applications both acute and ambulatory.
  • Manages applications projects or directs staff in the management of those projects.
  • Acts as an escalation resource for applications analysts and other IS staff.
  • Works with managers and directors to establish the team’s goals and objectives, often participating in the definition of work products and timelines.
  • Manages the day-to-day activities of a team of Information Systems professionals. Focuses on producing the team’s deliverables on-time and within budget.
  • Employs change management and/or project management methodologies to deliver high quality work products.
  • Consistent with Human Resources policies, attracts, retains and develops high quality staff. Establishes and maintains a work environment conducive to high performance. Addresses the training and professional development needs of the staff.
  • Interacts with clinicians, staff and various levels of management to communicate the status of the team’s efforts.
  • Promotes and encourages a high-quality customer service experience for all customer – internal and external.
  • Works with the IS Director to develop and update the 3-year IT Plan.
  • Collaborates well with other teams to produce results.
  • Work directly with vendors to assure delivery of contracted services and products.
  • May work on several medium to high complexity projects and/or services.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Business, Healthcare or related field required with eight (8) years’ experience in healthcare information systems or a commensurate combination of education and experience. 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Master’s degree preferred. RN license is preferred. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required. Must possess strong problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities and experience in diplomacy. Must be able to communicate and interact effectively and professionally with all customers, both internal and external to IS. High degree of confidentiality required. Demonstrated customer focus/orientation is required. Demonstrated ability to effectively manage a staff of diverse employees. Demonstrated experience with the departments and applications for which the manager has application responsibility is preferred.

Working Conditions:  May be occasionally exposed to hazardous materials or infectious diseases.

Physical Requirements:   Constantly see/visual acuity, handle/grasp/feel, talk/hear.  Frequently stand, sit, walk, reach, lift/carry 1 to 25 lbs.  Occasionally lift/carry 25 to 50+ lbs.
