Manager, Outcomes & Performance Improvement

Job Summary: The Manager, Outcomes & Performance Improvement oversees enterprise quality and performance improvement activities, including inpatient/outpatient reporting programs and associated actions, as well as the oversight and optimization of quality incentive and risk-based programs (e.g., CMS VBP, HAC, HRRP, PCMH, CPC+, MIPS, HEDIS).  Responsible for the development, implementation, coordination, and advancement of the enterprise performance improvement program in alignment with the Oaklawn Quality Improvement/Risk Mgmt./Pt. Safety plan and Quality Management System. 

Essential Functions:

  • Consistently uses an outward mindset and puts forth exemplary effort in accomplishing his/her goals and objectives in a manner that helps others to achieve their goals and objectives.
  • Maintains a high level of interaction with leadership, providers and other members of the healthcare team, in compiling, reporting, analyzing and disseminating quality metrics to identify quality opportunities, create strategies for improvement and audit the data submission process for efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Proactively monitors and reports on the progress for all quality programs to and improve the quality of patient care, maximize financial incentives, and minimize monetary penalties.
  • Oversees the collection and submission of internal/external measures and metrics; coordinates collection, maintenance and reporting of informational reports from identified departments and committees, as necessary.
  • Leads and/or attends identified committees and meetings acting as content expert and change agent in supporting and facilitating performance improvement initiatives for internal as well as external initiatives.   
  • Evaluates and improves the systems, processes, and tools used in accomplishing PI work through the PDCA process supported by other improvement methodologies as indicated. 
  • In collaboration with other team members, provides ongoing communication, resource, education, and information to all stakeholders for issues relates to quality, safety, performance improvement, and survey readiness.
  • Coordinates, supports, and monitors performance improvement plans/activities to maintain compliance with CMS, DNV-ISO and other regulatory and accreditation agencies. 
  • Identifies, researches, and communicates changes and updates for existing and new quality incentive programs,
  • Oversees, supervises, and manages the performance of direct reports; constantly evaluates skill sets of team members to ensure ongoing education and certifications are met to fulfill the needs of the department and organization. 

Minimum Qualifications: BSN with valid MI licensure. Five (5) years of clinical experience in a related setting. Relevant experience in data collection, aggregation and interpretation, analysis, and process improvement. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.  

Preferred Qualifications: MSN or Masters in an associated discipline. Previous experience within an integrated healthcare system (acute/clinics). Previous leadership experience. Experience with Lean Six Sigma principles. Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ).  

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:  Must possess strong communication and relationship building skills to deal effectively and collaboratively with a diverse group of stakeholders, including leadership, providers, and other healthcare professionals, both internal and external. Demonstrated ability to maintain strong interpersonal relationships, create teams, and influence all levels of the organization. 

Possesses leadership competencies and skills to be able to coach, mentor, and develop staff while setting expectations and accountabilities. Self-directed while working as part of a team, with the ability to facilitate change, utilizing data to drive improvement. Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills, including prioritizing and effectively managing multiple priorities to meet defined timeframes and deadlines. The Manager keeps abreast of industry trends.  

Working Conditions: Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available. Requires on-site presence and making rounds in the hospital and medical group facilities as need arises. 

Physical Requirements: Constantly see/visual acuity, talk/hear. Frequently sit, handle/grasp/feel. Occasionally 

lift/carry 1 to 50+ lbs.
