Job Summary: Under direct supervision of a provider, assists with patient care by controlling patient flow, obtaining, and documenting history and vital signs, performing assigned procedures, and providing patient education. Accompanies provider in room and documents clinical note, laboratory results, prescription refills, procedures, billing information and any other documentation as directed by the provider. Administrative duties include answering telephones, scheduling appointments, accurate patient registration, processing referrals and prior authorizations. Maintain focus on patient centered care and customer service.

Essential Functions:

  • Consistently use an outward mindset and put forth exemplary effort in accomplishing his/her goals and objectives in a manner that helps others to achieve their goals and objectives.
  • Accompanies provider into the examination room, transcribes history and physical exams, and documents accurately the physician’s encounters.
  • Lists all diagnoses, symptoms, follow-up instructions and prescriptions as dictated by the provider.
  • Documents all procedures performed by the physician.
  • Provides patient centered care and customer service.

Minimum Qualifications: 18 Years of age and Six (6) months Experience and/or training as a Medical Assistant or Registered or Certified Medical Assistant or Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Michigan. American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) Certification within 90 days of hire.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Experience in a medical office or similar setting preferred. Must possess interpersonal skills sufficient to deal effectively and courteously with a diverse group of patients, doctors, internal callers, and other healthcare personnel, while maintaining strict medical ethics. Demonstrated knowledge of medical assistant competencies, computers, and EHRs. Patient access knowledge preferred. PCMH experience is a plus. Skilled in Medical Terminology. Recognition of physical exam process and ability to record exam details.

Working Conditions: Potential exposure to blood/body fluids and contagious disease.

Physical Requirements: Constantly stand, walk, reach, see/visual acuity, handle/grasp/feel, talk/hear, taste/smell. Frequently sit, reach, push/pull, bend/twist, stoop/kneel/crouch. Lift/carry 1 to 50+ lbs.
