Clinical Practice Coordinator - Credentialing

SUMMARY:

The incumbent is responsible for developing and advancing the quality of clinical practice through the management, provision and coordination of the credentialing responsibilities of the Office of the Medical Director (OMD) / Emergency Physicians Advisory Board (EPAB) of the Metropolitan Area EMS Authority (MAEMSA) system.

 

This position requires the skills to be an effective leader and the ability to inspire individuals by communicating needed changes, motivating individuals to become active participating members of a team, and encouraging self-development through a leadership example approach. The incumbent will work collaboratively with the OMD team to ensure that the System goals are achieved in accordance with the mission and vision of OMD/EPAB and the MAEMSA.  

 

SPECIAL NOTE:  This job has been designated as a Safety Sensitive Position by MedStar. Public safety, as well as the safety of MedStar employees, requires that the employee in this position be able to perform all essential functions at the highest levels at all times.  Therefore, this position is subject to frequent drug testing and requires reporting of all employee use of High Risk Medications identified by MedStar and certification from the employee’s physician that such medications can be safely used while working.  Because MedStar’s ability to deliver emergency medical response depends on having a workforce that can be reliably scheduled, this job also requires regular and reliable attendance.  This is a high-stress job that requires focus, engagement, and high performance in traumatic, physically demanding, emotionally charged, and life-threatening situations.  The position involves exposure to serious and graphic injury to adults and children, including death and dismemberment.  A high level of physical, mental, and emotional health is an essential requirement.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Collaborate with MedStar Human Resources in supervision and coordination of the New Employee Orientation Program to include developing and ensuring content is appropriate, and scheduling instructors as needed.
  • Participate in clinical portion of the hiring process.
  • Supervise and evaluate all new hires and transitional employees in all phases of the credentialing process.
  • Collaborate with MedStar Field Operations in oversight of the field training aspects of credentialing.
  • Maintain appropriate physical and mental health required to perform the essential functions of this job.
  • Provide on-call coverage for On-line Protocol Guidance.
  • Ensure regular and timely physical attendance during assigned work hours.
  • Perform overtime work required in emergencies and as otherwise directed or assigned by the Medical Director or designee.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Maintain records and tracks credentialed providers within the System for compliance with all credentialing requirements.
  • Oversee and supervises Field Training Officers and FTO program (ongoing training and development) and coordination of trainees.
  • Implement clinical improvement plans and monitor clinical providers that are within the field training process.
  • Evaluate learner performance, provides feedback, and develops learner remediation plans.
  • Assist with performance evaluations for Field Training Officers.
  • Maintain confidentiality of protected health information in compliance with current HIPAA laws.
  • Act as an educational resource for Field Operations personnel and Field Training Officers.
  • Supervise and coordinate all employees assigned to remediation during the FTO process.
  • Conduct field evaluations and ensures field employees are providing the most appropriate treatment to our patients, and develops individual education and remediation plans as determined by field evaluations.
  • Collaborate with OMD team members in development and evaluation of clinical improvement plans.
  • Assist with Continuing Education (CE) activity development, implementation and evaluation for the Metropolitan Area EMS Authority system.
  • Collaborate with co-workers, peers, and others to develop innovative educational programs designed to meet the needs of the EMS community and EMS providers
  • Participate in activities that promote the MAEMSA.
  • Assist with writing test questions with rationales for exams.
  • Assist with the validation of tests and test questions on a regular basis.
  • Stay current on changes, updates, and research in EMS.
  • Assist with other OMD responsibilities and projects as assigned by the Medical Director or designee.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Air conditioned office environment
  • Occasionally: Confined areas, extreme hot and cold, wet and/or humid conditions, noise, vibration, mechanical and electrical equipment, moving objects, high places, fumes/odors/mists, dirt and dust, gasses, toxic conditions, human excrement, blood, urine, mucous, tissue. Frequently works alone, with and around others, face to face and verbal contact, inside and outside temperature changes. Work hours may vary due to office needs

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Two years as an Advanced Paramedic in the System, or at least five years’ experience as a paramedic in a busy 911 system.
  • Advanced credentialing requirement.
  • Hold instructor cards in three of the following: CPR, ACLS, Pediatric, and Trauma
  • Obtain instructor certification in AMLS and remaining instructor certifications within 6 months of hire
  • Knowledge of EMS theory, practice, and trends.
  • Knowledge of organizational structure, workflow, and operational procedures.
  • Demonstrated teaching and educational facilitation skills.
  • Knowledge of adult learning theory and methodologies.
  • Knowledge of competency based educational principles and methods.
  • Adherence to established standards for educational quality.
  • High level of integrity and objectivity in performance review of clinical care and the ability to provide constructive feedback.
  • Familiarity with basic computer applications, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Appropriate time management to ensure that all areas of essential functions are adequately covered.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with online Learning Management Systems.
  • No Corrective Action within the last 12 months.
  • No exclusion by the OIG to participate in Federally Funded Heath Care Programs.

 

PREFERRED REQUIRMENTS:

  • Associates degree in emergency medical services management, business administration, or other related degree, or equivalent experience.
  • Five or more years of experience as a paramedic in a busy 911 system.
  • Previous experience coordinating and instructing EMT, EMT-P, and Critical Care courses.
  • Texas Basic or Advanced Course Coordinator certification.
  • One year of instructional experience in EMS career field.
  • Texas Department of State Health Services EMS Instructor certification.
