Groundskeeper - Plant Operations Part Time

Job Summary: This person performs the overall quality care of the grounds at Oaklawn Hospital and changes as needed due to weather or other hospital needs and priorities. 

 

Essential Functions:

  • Consistently uses an outward mindset and puts forth exemplary effort in accomplishing his/her goals and objectives in a manner that helps others to achieve their goals and objectives.
  • Mows, trims and edges lawns on and off campus with minimal supervision.
  • Weeds flower beds.
  • Plants grass areas, flower beds or other grounds areas as needed.
  • Fertilizes and waters of plants as needed.
  • Shovels snow and salts ice.
  • Moves heavy items in departmental moves.
  • Installs cables as needed for phone and data lines.
  • Communicates needs for lawn maintenance with Director or Assistant Director of Plant Operations.
  • Implements instructions without undue delay.
  • Performs and completes assignments without the need for supervision while providing consistent quality and quantity of work.
  • Does simple lawn equipment maintenance.
  • Provides general clean-up during work assignments.
  • Operates hospital vehicles by procedure.
  • Work Plant Operations phones and enter work orders during absence of other staff members.

Minimum Qualifications: High school graduate and two years of experience associated with the trade(s) areas related to the position’s role; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:  Able to work long, hard hours and to have the necessary attention to detail to perform tasks at the expected quality level.  Able to work in a team environment.  Ability to read, write and understand written and verbal instructions; attention to detail to perform tasks at the expected quality level; ability to work in a team environment when necessary and independently.  Knowledge of basic office computer software, and the ability to learn maintenance software to input work orders and research parts.

 

Working Conditions:  May occasionally be exposed to hazardous materials and various degrees of weather.

 

Physical Requirements:  Constantly stand, walk, reach, push/pull, see/visual acuity, handle/grasp/feel, talk/hear.  Frequently bend/twist, stoop/kneel/crouch, lift/carry 1 to 25 lbs.  Occasionally lift/carry 25 to 50+ lbs.
