Clinical Coordinator

Job Summary:  Assesses, promotes and contributes to the quality of nursing care administered to patients and their support systems throughout the healthcare continuum. The Clinical Coordinator provides clinical leadership and staff development through role-modeling and professional communication.

Essential Functions

  • Consistently uses an outward mindset and puts forth exemplary effort in accomplishing his/her goals and objectives in a manner that helps others to achieve their goals and objectives.
  • Assists the Nursing Director in data collection, analysis and daily operations.
  • Communicates and collaborates with other departments to provide continuous, smooth transition of care and day-to-day operations between units.
  • Develops and coordinates orientation and training of staff, including IT programs. Mentors and consults with staff regarding their professional needs.
  • Facilitates the development and utilization of patient education materials to meet the needs of the specialty unit.
  • Serves as a resource for emergency preparedness situation and accreditation activities.
  • Identifies clinical areas to be monitored that directly impact patient care and the clinical setting.
  • Guides and directs system-wide clinical activities to improve and maintain staff competency and critical thinking skills.
  • Provides clinical knowledge and expertise for management of complex patient care problems.
  • Monitors activities during shifts and facilitates completion of assignments and schedules for appropriate deployment of staff.
  • Collaborates with staff to identify issues on the unit, plans appropriate actions to promote changes which enhance nursing practice and evaluates these changes.
  • Coordinates appropriate staffing levels at all times; communicates change to House Supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Educates staff regarding duties for DOT breath alcohol testing
  • Assists with interviews of potential staff.
  • Provides department educational opportunities and competency evaluation.
  • Service recovery with patients and families.

Minimum Qualifications:  Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. Two (2) years’ experience in an acute care setting. Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing. Must have current, unencumbered license in the State of Michigan. BLS certification.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:   Master’s degree in Nursing or active pursuit of degree preferred; recent experience in a Clinical Coordinator/Leadership role preferred. Specialty certification is desirable. Effective interpersonal communication and teaching skills. Must have the knowledge, skills and ability to fulfill the professional role functions of the Registered Nurse in the assigned area.

Working Conditions: Available to work in the ED as a staff nurse when needed, as well as working in an office setting.  Potentially exposed to infectious diseases. 

Physical Requirements:   Constantly stand, walk, reach, push/pull, see/visual acuity, handle/grasp/feel, bend/twist, stoop/kneel/crouch, talk/hear, lift/carry 1 to 50+ lbs.  Frequently sit.
