Medical Assistant - Call Center

Job Summary:  Answer all incoming calls, make appointments, and processes maintenance medication refills.  Evaluate, assess, and document patients’ questions or concerns and relay them to the provider.

Essential Functions:

  • Consistently uses an outward mindset and puts forth exemplary effort in accomplishing his/her goals and objectives in a manner that helps others to achieve their goals and objectives.
  • Maintenance prescription refills.
  • Answers incoming phone calls to evaluate, assess and document patients’ questions or concerns.
  • Discusses patients’ concerns and questions with the providers.
  • Schedules appointments.
  • Provides patient centered care and customer service.

Minimum Qualifications:  High school diploma or equivalent and healthcare environment experience; current Medical Assistant Certification or Registration or complete the ABROE modules within 90 days of hire. BLS Certification within 90 days of hire.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:  Patient access knowledge preferred.  PCMH experience a plus. Experience with Athena or Cerner is preferred.   Demonstrated knowledge of medical assistant competencies; ability to operate standard office equipment including fax, copier, scanner, and computers and software such as Microsoft Office. Maintains standard(s) of care under the guidance of Oaklawn’s policies and procedures. Ability to work with diverse patient and staff populations with sensitivity to cultural and spiritual influences impacting patient care. Efficiently manage time with minimal supervision.

Working Conditions:  Work is generally performed within an office environment with standard office equipment available. Hours may fluctuate based on patient needs.

Physical Requirements:  Constantly stand, walk, reach, see/visual acuity, handle/grasp/feel, talk/hear, taste/smell.  Frequently sit, reach, push/pull, bend/twist, stoop/kneel/crouch.  Occasionally lift/carry 1 to 50+ lbs.
