Mammography Tech

Job Summary: Under limited supervision, provides mammography and bone density exam’s for patients.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Consistently uses an outward mindset and puts forth exemplary effort in accomplishing his/her goals and objectives in a manner that helps others to achieve their goals and objectives.
  • Performs mammography and other radiological testing according to department procedures.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in use of all radiological equipment used
  • Performs all required Quality Control and document results per departmental procedures. 
  • Reviews and evaluates digital images, or computer generated information to determine if images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes. 
  • Explains procedures and observes patients to ensure safety and comfort during scan. 
  • Operate or oversees operation of radiological equipment to produce images of the body for diagnostic purposes. 
  • Positions and immobilizes patients on equipment and/or examining table. 
  • Positions imaging equipment and adjusts controls to set exposure time and distance, according to specification of examination. 
  • Determines technical factors, set controls and operates equipment per manufacturer specifications.  
  • Monitors display of area being scanned and adjusts density or contrast to improve picture quality. 
  • Monitors patients' conditions and reactions, reporting abnormal signs to physician.
  • Sets up examination rooms, and ensures that all necessary equipment is ready. 
  • Takes thorough and accurate patient medical histories. 
  • Records, processes and maintains patient data and treatment records, and prepares reports. 
  • Coordinates work with clerical personnel and other technologists. 
  • Demonstrates new equipment, procedures, and techniques to staff, and provides technical assistance. 
  • Provides assistance with such tasks as dressing and changing to seriously ill, injured, or disabled patients. 
  • Performs scheduled quality assurance studies, maintenance and minor emergency repairs on radiographic equipment.

 

Minimum Qualifications: Associate’s Degree in X-ray Technology or related field. Registered or registry eligible by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) in Mammography (M), and certified in Basic Life Support (BLS from American Red Cross or American Heart Association).

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of radiological equipment and techniques, radiation safety, anatomy/physiology and disease process and quality control. Should be skilled in interpersonal relationships, monitoring patient responses assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands and operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications. According to the needs of the organization, some incumbents in this job class may be required to obtain additional specific technical certifications.

 

Working Conditions: May be occasionally exposed to hazardous materials or infectious diseases.

 

Physical Requirements:  Constantly walk, see/visual acuity, handle/grasp/feel, bend/twist, talk/hear.  Frequently stand, reach, push/pull, stoop/kneel/crouch, lift/carry 50+ lbs.
