MRI Technologist

Job Summary:  Perform MRI scan procedures common to Oaklawn Hospital.

Essential Functions:

  • Consistently uses an outward mindset and puts forth exemplary effort in accomplishing his/her goals and objectives in a manner that helps others to achieve their goals and objectives.
  • Prepares and performs MRI exams common to Oaklawn Hospital in a professional and timely manner.
  • Properly loans out images.
  • Orders storeroom supplies for the department.
  • Maintains an active and thorough knowledge of the concepts, techniques, and protocols used in MRI.
  • Properly uses the MRI and PACS webserver teleradiology equipment.
  • Uses proper procedures for self and for the protection of the patient or any other persons in the exam room at the time of a procedure in regards to the dangers of strong magnetic forces.
  • Administers IV contrast as needed including operation of power injector to complete ordered procedures common to Oaklawn Hospital.
  • Follows precautionary procedures to ensure patient and employee safety such as proper lifting and patient transfer techniques.

Minimum Qualifications:   Registered Radiologic Technologist registered in MRI or registry eligible graduate. Registry eligible technologist must receive MRI certification within two attempts or one year of date of hire. Biannual CPR (BLS) certification.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:   Ability to effectively operate MRI equipment and techniques.  Knowledge of cross sectional anatomy/physiology and disease process.  Knowledge of quality control in MRI, all contrast media used in Imaging, i.e., dosage, precautions, adverse reactions and examination appropriateness.  Working knowledge of sterile technique.  Ability to evaluate MRI images in order to acquire appropriate diagnostic information, integrate diagnostic images, laboratory results, patient history and medical records, and adapt MRI examination as necessary, to use independent judgment to acquire the optimum diagnostic images in each examination performed,  to evaluate, synthesize and communicate diagnostic information to the attending physician and/or Radiologist and to communicate effectively with the patient and the health care team, recognizing the special nature of MRI examinations and patients’ needs. Excellent problem solving skills.

Skill in interpersonal relationships with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and health care team.  Ability to work efficiently and cope with emergency situations.  Skilled in monitoring patient responses, assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands and operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications.

Working Conditions:  May occasionally be exposed to infectious diseases or hazardous materials. This position will take call hours at least 2 days a week. 

Physical Requirements:   Constantly walk, see/visual acuity, handle/grasp/feel, bend/twist, talk/hear.  Frequently stand, reach, push/pull, stoop/kneel/crouch, lift/carry 50+ lbs.
