Vascular Ultrasonographer

Job Definition: Under supervision of Lead Sonographer provides diagnostic patient care services using ultrasound and related diagnostic procedures.  The scope includes procedures, acts and processes permitted by law.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Consistently uses an outward mindset and puts forth exemplary effort in accomplishing his/her goals and objectives in a manner that helps others to achieve their goals and objectives.
  • Is responsible for the independent operation of sonographic equipment, and for performing and communicating results of diagnostic examinations ordered by physicians. 
  • Is responsible for daily operations of the vascular laboratory, equipment maintenance, report of equipment failures, and quality assessment.
  • Uses cognitive sonographic skills to identify, record, and adapt procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological diagnostic information and images. 
  • Prepares preliminary reports and contacts referring physicians and/or Radiologist when required according to established procedures. 
  • Uses independent judgment during the vascular sonographic exam to accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings. 
  • Analyzes vascular sonograms, synthesizes sonographic information and medical history, and communicates findings to the physician. 
  • Assumes responsibility for the safety and comfort of patients while they are in the sonographers care.

 

Minimum Qualifications: Graduate of formal vascular ultrasound technology training accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). Active certification by American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) in the specialty of RVT or registry eligible as appropriate. Must complete registry within one year of hire.  BLS certification.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:  Knowledge of anatomy/physiology and disease process, of quality control in the Vascular Ultrasound Department. The incumbent should be skilled in building interpersonal relationships with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and health care team and have the ability to work efficiently and cope with emergency situation. The incumbent should also have the ability to assess and prioritize multiple tasks, projects and demands and have experience in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications. The Ability to integrate diagnostic vascular sonograms, laboratory results, patient history and medical records, and adapt sonographic examination as necessary is also preferred.

 

Working Conditions:  May occasionally be exposed to infectious diseases or hazardous materials.  

 

Physical Requirements:  Constantly walk, see/visual acuity, handle/grasp/feel, bend/twist, talk/hear.  Frequently stand, reach, push/pull, stoop/kneel/crouch, lift/carry 50+ lbs.
