Coordinator, Charge Nurse

Job Summary: Responsible and accountable for assisting in the day to day operation of the OR, staff, and patient population. Collaborates with staff, vendors, physicians and others to ensure efficient and quality patient care.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Consistently uses an outward mindset and puts forth exemplary effort in accomplishing his/her goals and objectives in a manner that helps others to achieve their goals and objectives.
  • Coordinates/delegates and adjust patient assignments in the OR
  • Directs staff in applying nursing process. Provides direction, coordinates patient care, promotes and enhances independent functioning among employees
  • Anticipates and plans for interdepartmental needs
  • Maintains overview of physicians and their needs
  • Helps to facilitate orientation, preceptorships, and continuing education
  • Oversees staff; develops and maintains staff schedules both daily and call; maintains requests for time off, call offs, etc.
  • Facilitates communication between staff, physicians, patients, families, and other departments
  • Demonstrates knowledge of hospital policies and procedures as well as AORN standards and recommended practices; utilizing the same as basis for decision making
  • Supports Director with interview, disciplinary, and performance review processes
  • Assist in evaluation of the effectiveness of care given by self and team members, systems, environment, and instrumentation in processing patient outcomes
  • Monitors efficient room turnovers
  • Assists in monthly staff meeting
  • Functions as clinical staff as needed

 

Minimum Qualifications: Current licensure in Michigan as a Registered Nurse. CNOR required with first 6 months. BLS and PALS. Member of AORN. Five (5) years clinical OR experience. Recent charge/supervisory experience.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:  Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Expertise in circulating and scrub roles. Proficient computer skills, Cerner, Surginet, Word, and Excel. Excellent decision making skills. Proficient nursing assessment, implementation, and evaluation skills. Able to work under stressful situation. Professional demeanor. Creates a professional work environment through leading by example, support of organizational vision and mission, and maintaining availability to patients and staff. Demonstrate mentoring ability when interacting with staff.

Working Conditions:  Potential for exposure to infectious disease and blood and body fluids.

 

Physical Requirements:  Constantly walk, see/visual acuity, talk/hear.  Frequently stand, sit, push/pull, handle/grasp/feel, bend/twist, lift/carry 25 to 50+ lbs.
