Switchboard Operator

Job Summary: Operates call center to relay incoming, outgoing and interoffice calls.  Operates communication system, such as telephone, intercom or paging system.  Greets callers, furnishes information to callers and relays calls. 

 

Essential Functions:

  • Ability to speak to others to convey information
  • Ability to listen effectively
  • Ability to effective perform clerical duties
  • May also act as receptionist and perform routine clerical duties.

 

Minimum Qualifications:  High school diploma or equivalent required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:  Knowledge of principles and processes for providing excellence in customer and personal services.  Knowledge of operation of telecommunication systems.  Able to ask appropriate questions and ability to speak to others to convey information.  Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing systems, filing and records management systems and other office procedures and terminology.

Working Conditions:  Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available.

 

Physical Requirements: Constantly sit, see/visual acuity, talk/hear.  Frequently handle/grasp/feel.  Occasionally lift/carry 1 to 25 lbs.
