Clinical Practice Coordinator - Credentialing

SUMMARY:

The Clinical Practice Coordinator - Credentialing is responsible for developing and advancing the quality of clinical practice through the management, provision and coordination of the clinical new-hire instruction and field training process for credentialing by Office of the Medical Director. The CPC-Credentialing Coordinator will ensure new-hire competency with protocols and overall clinical training objectives. The CPC-Credentialing Coordinator will work collaboratively with the OMD and Operations teams to ensure that the System goals are achieved in accordance with the mission and vision of OMD/EPAB and the MAEMSA.  

 

SPECIAL NOTE:  This job has been designated as a Safety Sensitive Position by MedStar. Public safety, as well as the safety of MedStar employees, requires that the employee in this position be able to perform all essential functions at the highest levels at all times.  Therefore, this position is subject to frequent drug testing and requires reporting of all employee use of High Risk Medications identified by MedStar and certification from the employee’s physician that such medications can be safely used while working.  Because MedStar’s ability to deliver emergency medical response depends on having a workforce that can be reliably scheduled, this job also requires regular and reliable attendance.  This is a high-stress job that requires focus, engagement, and high performance in traumatic, physically demanding, emotionally charged, and life-threatening situations.  The position involves exposure to serious and graphic injury to adults and children, including death and dismemberment.  A high level of physical, mental, and emotional health is an essential requirement.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Collaborate with MedStar Human Resources in the New Employee Orientation Program to include developing and ensuring clinical content and scheduling instructors as needed.
  • Participate in the hiring process to assist HR on potential employee selection through clinical feedback.
  • Oversee evaluation of all new hires and transitional employees in all phases of the credentialing process.
  • Collaborate with MedStar Field Operations in oversight of the field training aspects of credentialing.
  • Maintain appropriate physical and mental health required to perform the essential functions of this job.
  • Provide on-call coverage for On-line Protocol Guidance.
  • Ensure regular and timely physical attendance during assigned work hours.
  • Perform overtime work required in emergencies and as otherwise directed or assigned by the Medical Director or designee.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Maintain records and tracks credentialed providers within the system for compliance with all credentialing requirements.
  • Assist with oversight and supervision of the FTO process (ongoing training and development) and coordination of trainees.
  • Implement clinical improvement plans and monitor clinical providers that are within the field training process.
  • Collaborates with Operations for FTO performance evaluations.
  • Act as an educational resource for Field Operations personnel.
  • Supervise and coordinate process for all employees assigned to remediation during the FTO process.
  • Conduct clinical evaluations and ensures field employees are providing the most appropriate treatment to our patients, and develops individual education and remediation plans as determined by clinical evaluations.
  • Collaborate with OMD team members in development and evaluation of clinical improvement plans.
  • Assist with Continuing Education (CE) activity development, implementation and evaluation for the Metropolitan Area EMS Authority system.
  • Collaborate with co-workers, peers, and others to develop innovative educational programs designed to meet the needs of the EMS community and EMS providers
  • Assist with writing test questions with rationales for exams.
  • Assist with the validation of tests and test questions on a regular basis.
  • Stay current on changes, updates, and research in EMS.
  • Participate in activities that promote the MAEMSA.
  • Complete other projects and/or responsibilities as assigned by the Medical Director or designee.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Air conditioned office environment
  • Occasionally: Confined areas, extreme hot and cold, wet and/or humid conditions, noise, vibration, mechanical and electrical equipment, moving objects, high places, fumes/odors/mists, dirt and dust, gasses, toxic conditions, human excrement, blood, urine, mucous, tissue. Frequently works alone, with and around others, face to face and verbal contact, inside and outside temperature changes. Work hours may vary due to office needs

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Constantly seeing. Frequently hearing/listening, clear speech, touching, walking inside and outside, sitting.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Two years as an Advanced Paramedic in the MAEMSA system, or at least five years’ experience as a paramedic in a busy 911 system.
  • Advanced credentialing requirement.
  • Texas Department of State Health Services EMS Instructor certification or NAEMSE Instructor Level 1 certification
  • Knowledge of adult learning theory and methodologies.
  • Knowledge of competency based educational principles and methods.
  • High level of integrity and objectivity in performance review of clinical care and the ability to provide constructive feedback.
  • Familiarity with basic computer applications, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • No exclusion by the OIG to participate in Federally Funded Heath Care Programs.

 

PREFERRED REQUIRMENTS:

  • Six or more years of experience as a paramedic in a busy 911 system.
  • Associates degree in emergency medical services management, business administration, or other related degree, or equivalent experience.
  • Previous experience coordinating and instructing EMT, EMT-P, and Critical Care courses.
  • Instructor cards in CPR, ACLS, AMLS, Pediatric, and Trauma.
