Coordinator - Health Information Services

Job Summary: Provides support, coordination and facilitation for projects within the HIM department.

Essential Functions:

  • Consistently uses an outward mindset and puts forth exemplary effort in accomplishing his/her goals and objectives in a manner that helps others to achieve their goals and objectives.
  • Maintains a record audit management system.
  • Coordinates projects for HIM department
  • Participates in development of policies, procedures and guidelines as they apply.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert for HIM programs.
  • Serves as a backup for department ordering.
  • Assists with other HIM related processes, i.e. release of information, deficiency analysis, etc.
  • Assists physicians, offices, and staff with HIM/ Revenue related questions.
  • Assigns physician numbers to credentialed providers.
  • Attends and participates in project meetings.
  • Facilitates denial appeals.
  • Facilitates provider orientation.

Minimum Qualifications: Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT)certified or eligible to test for RHIT, CCS or equivalent.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:   Advanced knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and disease processes; knowledge of computers and misc. software, electronic medical records and registry process; skilled in interpersonal relationships and customer service. Working knowledge of identified registry functions. Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding.

Working Conditions:  Work is generally performed in an office environment, with standard office equipment available.

Physical Requirements:   Constantly sit, see/visual acuity, talk/hear.  Frequently stand, walk, handle/grasp/feel.  Occasionally lift/carry 1 to 49 lbs.
