Assistant Controller

Job Title: Assistant Controller- Operations
Department: Finance
Reports To: Director of Financial Reporting

Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Financial Reporting, assists in the management of the day-to-day operations of the Payroll, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable and Revenue Audit functions. Assumes management duties of the Finance Department in the absence of the Director of Financial Reporting.

Supervisory Responsibilities
Assists the Director of Financial Reporting with the management of the Accounting Manager and Casino Audit Manager duties and functions specific to the Finance Department. Assists in the management of the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's degree (BS/BA) in Accounting required; advanced degree or CPA a plus; minimum 5 years supervisory experience in a professional accounting environment required; experience equivalent to 5 years fulltime professional level accounting work with experience in financial operations in the casino industry required.

Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have excellent PC skills and broad knowledge of current financial and accounting systems, database software, payroll systems, spreadsheet and word processing software.

Other Qualifications
Must have a good knowledge of general accounting theories, principles and practices; solid working knowledge of general budgeting principles and practices; skilled at establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with state, federal and community officials and managers. Must be skilled in understanding and applying complex rules, regulations, procedures and guidelines. Must have strong analytical skills and be able to apply excellent problem solving techniques. Must have good people management and communication skills and ability to motivate others.

Language Skills
Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk; sit; use hands and fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to secondary smoke. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
