Manager of Applications

Job Summary: The Manager of Applications oversees a team of Clinical and Systems Analysts who implement, support, train, and perform ongoing maintenance of enterprise applications.  The position entails application expertise and involves close collaboration with users, vendors, and staff to ensure performance, availability, and integration with other Oaklawn systems. Major areas of application focus include healthcare, business, human capital and their ancillary systems and connections.  

Essential Functions:

  • Consistently uses an outward mindset and puts forth exemplary effort in accomplishing his/her goals and objectives in a manner that helps others to achieve their goals and objectives.
  • Manages the day-to-day activities of a team of Information Systems professionals.  Works alongside the team to gain an understanding of the technical aspects of their roles.
  • Attracts and retains staff while addressing their training and professional development needs.  Fosters a collaborative and productive work environment.  
  • Plans, develops, organizes, implements, directs, and evaluates the resources and functions supporting business applications.
  • Oversees our multifaceted application portfolio, requiring extensive knowledge of healthcare operations, industry best practices, regulatory programs, and complex systems.
  • Provides analysis, problem solving support, and technical guidance around efficient and effective use of Oaklawn systems in support of goals and objectives.
  • Establishes technical and implementation standards to ensure long-term, cost-effective management and support for the currently implemented applications.
  • Utilizes and applies change management and project management methodologies to consistently deliver high-quality work products.
  • Keeps others informed utilizing various communication tools and platforms, such as meetings, emails, and internal systems; ensures that information is accessible and comprehensible to everyone. 
  • Works with the IS Director to develop and update the 3–5-year roadmap.
  • Works directly with vendors to ensure delivery of contracted services and products.
  • Collaborates with and leads user committees through process and business decision activities related to healthcare systems.
  • Establishes and maintain access controls for applications containing sensitive information.
  • Maintains detailed up-to-date technical and operations documentation.
  • Experience coaching and mentoring others to increase professional effectiveness, which may include scheduling work, reviewing completed assignments, prioritizing work, and overseeing projects.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Business, Healthcare, or related field required with eight (8) years of experience in healthcare information systems or a commensurate combination of education and experience.  

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Master’s degree preferred. RN license is preferred. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required. Must possess strong problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities and experience in diplomacy. Must be able to communicate and interact effectively and professionally with all customers, both internal and external to IS. High degree of confidentiality required. Demonstrated customer focus/orientation is required. Demonstrated ability to effectively manage a staff of diverse employees. Demonstrated experience with the departments and applications for which the manager has application responsibility is preferred.

Working Conditions: May be occasionally exposed to hazardous materials or infectious diseases. May be required to perform occasional on-call rotation with other team members.  

Physical Requirements:  Constantly see/visual acuity, handle/grasp/feel, talk/hear.  Frequently stand, sit, walk, reach, lift/carry 1 to 25 lbs.  Occasionally lift/carry 25 to 50+ lbs.
