Massage Therapist

Job Summary: Massages client(s) to relieve discomfort and ease muscle tension.

Essential Functions:

  • Conducts fitness evaluations and writes exercise programs for members according to the ACSM guidelines.
  • Gauges the condition of the client’s soft tissues, the joint function and quality, range of motion, and muscle strength.
  • Proposes a specific treatment plan for clients.
  • Continues to schedule massages for the soft tissues and muscles to maintain treatment that has been established.
  • Suggests referrals, if needed.
  • Educates clients on how to improve their posture and teach them strengthening, stretching, and relaxation techniques.
  • Maintains proper use of massage equipment; massage table, and stereo.
  • Maintains a clean environment for massage therapy; massage table, linen, pillows, etc.

Minimum Qualifications:  High School diploma or commensurate. BLS certified.

Knowledge Skills Abilities:  Should possess knowledge of anatomy/physiology and emergency procedures. The incumbent should be skilled in interpersonal relationships and monitoring member responses. Massage therapy training by an accredited agency, with certification and licensure strongly suggested.

Working Conditions/ Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift, carry, pull or push approximately 50 pounds. Ability to continuously stand, bend and/or sit for significant periods of time.
