Fitness Specialist

Job Summary: Assists in maintaining a quality fitness center with fully functional equipment and helps members improve their health and fitness levels and feel good about themselves through advice, demonstrations, casual conversations, friendly behavior and special incentive programs to keep members motivated. 

Essential Functions:

  • Conducts fitness evaluations and writes exercise programs for members according to the ACSM guidelines.
  • Introduces members to other members so that they can socialize with each other; uses members’ names when talking with them.
  • Supervises area to ensure that the equipment is returned to its proper location.
  • Provides guidance to people who may be doing exercises incorrectly.
  • Completes weekly maintenance and cleaning and fixes equipment when possible. 
  • Creates new programs and specialty classes for specific populations.   
  • Assists with marketing and promoting the program and tracks results of participants, revenue, feedback, etc.
  • Assists in developing annual business plan and financial targets.
  • Conducts opening and closing duties, manages the cash register and processes point of sale purchases.
  • Assists in sales of memberships and giving guest tours.
  • Assists in ensuring that locker rooms are clean, well maintained and safe for members.

Minimum Qualifications:  BS or BA in exercise science, fitness, health, kinesiology, or related field; certification as a personal trainer, fitness instructor, or conditioning specialist from a NCCA-accredited certification organization. AED/BLS certified.

Knowledge Skills Abilities:  Knowledge of ACSM guidelines and protocols, fitness equipment, anatomy/physiology and emergency procedures. Skilled in interpersonal relationships, monitoring member responses, assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands. Ability to operate a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications.

Working Conditions/ Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift, carry, pull or push approximately 50 pounds. Ability to continuously stand, bend and/or sit for significant periods of time.
