Director - Primary Care Provider

Job Summary: Manages and monitors all business operations of the Oaklawn Medical Group (OMG) continuously improving quality, the patient experience and expanding market share. Leads and directs all activities related to administration, facilities, information systems, marketing, patient satisfaction, personnel management, and regulatory compliance. Assists in the development of annual budgets and manages the variables that contribute to strong financial performance. Analyzes and explains financial performance to organizational leaders. Ensures that company policies and procedures are followed and core values are modeled. Leads a productive, team-oriented work environment. Coaches and mentors direct reports by example and through use of clearly communicated expectations, progress meetings, performance development and evaluations. Contributes to physician recruitment, onboarding and compensation administration.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Consistently uses an outward mindset and puts forth exemplary effort in accomplishing his/her goals and objectives in a manner that helps others to achieve their goals and objectives.
  • Assists in developing, directing, prioritizing and implementing the short and long-range goals of OMG; assessing and connecting department goals to the strategic objectives of the organization.
  • Protects assets by establishing, monitoring and enforcing internal controls.
  • Assists in qualifying for, and maintaining necessary qualifications to receive ongoing payment incentives (PCMH, PGIP, Meaningful Use, etc.).
  • Provides ongoing financial analysis of operational results against budget and develops corrective action as needed.
  • Provides input on contracts with various insurance companies to ensure the most optimal reimbursement.
  • Actively participates in budget preparation and management in conjunction with Site Managers, develops budget recommendations for personnel, programs, space, capitol and operational expenditures within budgetary guidelines.
  • Ensures appropriate and accurate record keeping for functional areas of responsibility; prepares associated reports and correspondence.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local legal requirements by researching existing and new legislation, consulting with outside advisors, and filing financial reports. Advises OMG Executive Director of actions and potential risks; provides input on insurance coverage for malpractice, property and casualty and general liability.
  • Assists in coordinating and participating in external and internal audits as required.
  • Hires, trains, develops and appraises performance of divisional direct reports. Indirectly supervises OMG primary care provider personnel, guiding office Site Managers with corrective action as necessary on a timely basis and in accordance with policy. Consults with Human Resources when appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications: Associates degree or commensurate combination of education and medical group experience. Five (5) years previous practice management experience in a large multi-specialty medical group environment. 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Bachelor's degree preferred. Previous experience or oversight of physician incentive programs (PCMH, PGIP, etc.), as well as previous demonstrated experience with LEAN or Six Sigma preferred.   Solid understanding and experience in outpatient billing and collections. Strong Microsoft Office skills; sound understanding of accounting concepts and financial statements along with the ability to analyze and explain financial performance, including the identification of root causes contributing to financial performance; Athena and Cerner experience. Strong interpersonal skills.  Analytical and critical thinking skills necessary to evaluate and recommend operational procedures, develop departmental and organizational strategies, goals and objectives, evaluate prospective programs and service lines, lead and monitor projects. Ability to plan, organize, staff, direct and control the overall work activities of a department. Ability to effectively manage time and workload and prioritize activities and tasks appropriately.

 

Working Conditions:  Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available.

 

Physical Requirements:  Constantly see/visual acuity, handle/grasp/feel, talk/hear, taste/smell.  Frequently stand, sit and walk.  Occasionally lift/carry 1 to 25 lbs.
