Director of Risk

Job Summary: Coordinates multiple activities within the Quality Improvement department to improve organizational processes. Facilitates regulatory compliance and ISO certification. Oversees value-based purchasing abstraction functions.  Manages risk management activities.

Essential Functions:

  • Consistently uses an outward mindset and puts forth exemplary effort in accomplishing his/her goals and objectives in a manner that helps others to achieve their goals and objectives.
  • Oversees and coordinates activities for accreditation status through DNV.
  • Participates in accreditation, State and Federal surveys.
  • Oversees the internal audit process with the Quality Improvement Specialist.
  • Assists with ISO 9001 certification needs under the direction of top management.
  • Assists the leadership team and provides quality support as necessary.
  • Manages lawsuits and acts as liaison with attorneys and the claims representative.
  • Develops policies and procedures for loss prevention and risk control.
  • Oversees the grievance process with assistance from the patient advocate.
  • Provides assistance and guidance to departments regarding liability and risk issues.
  • Conducts or participates in Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA) or Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to improve processes.
  • Oversees patient safety, quality improvement, and value-based purchasing processes with the Quality Improvement Coordinator and Quality Improvement Analyst.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in nursing or related allied health discipline.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Five (5) years experience in a healthcare setting preferred. Experience with accreditation and Center for Medicare and Medicaid regulations preferred. Risk management experience preferred. Experience in PDCA, Lean, FMEA, and RCA tools and processes preferred.  Experience in patient safety role preferred. Possesses strong leadership and communication skills. Possesses knowledge of, or experience in, the delivery of patient care needed to perform the duties of the position. Must be detail oriented with strong organizational and analytic problem-solving skills, as well as have exceptional verbal and written communication skills. Basic understanding of statistics needed. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.  Ability to perform in a self-directed manner within a team-focused framework.

Working Conditions:  Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available.

Physical Requirements: Constantly see/visual acuity, handle/grasp/feel, talk/hear, taste/smell.  Frequently sit.  Occasionally lift/carry 1 to 50+ lbs.
