Director, Birth Center

Job Summary: Responsible for overall operations of the Birth Center under the general administrative direction of the Chief Nursing Officer. Leads unit operations and maintains 24/7 accountability for outcomes.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Consistently uses an outward mindset and puts forth exemplary effort in accomplishing his/her goals and objectives in a manner that helps others to achieve their goals and objectives.
  • Plans and directs unit functions
  • Oversees quality improvements
  • Meets all regulatory standards
  • Collaborates with, hires, coaches and evaluates staff
  • Works both with individuals and within a shared governance structure to meet the unit’s vision, strategic, financial, clinical, and operational goals
  • Works successfully with diverse team of stakeholders including physicians, multiple levels of professional and technical staff members, community members etc.
  • Manages a wide range of fiscal and budgetary responsibilities.
  • Achieves top decile patient satisfaction;
  • Maintains involvement in patient care environment.

 

Minimum Qualifications: Current license in the State of Michigan. Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. Obstetrical nursing care including labor and delivery, newborn, and couplet care. BLS and NRP certifications.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:  Master’s degree in nursing and previous leadership experience preferred. OB RNC preferred. Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills; strong coaching and mentoring aptitude; an appreciative inquiry and relationship based care based focus; skillful advocate for patients and staff. Highly developed analytical and organizational skills; flexible; skillful use of research/evidence based; patient safety orientation; comfort/skill with end of life issues and bioethics; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; lifelong learning orientation; strong vision of nursing and patient care.

 

Working Conditions:  Work in an unpredictable environment encountering stressful situations and exposure to body fluids and infectious diseases.  May experience emergent and/or traumatic situations including patient death.

 

Physical Requirements:  Constantly stand, walk, see/visual acuity, talk/hear, lift/carry 50+ lbs.  Frequently sit, reach, push/pull, handle/grasp/feel, bend/twist, stoop/kneel/crouch.
