Psychologist

trong>Job Summary:  Provides psychological assessment, psychological testing and individual, family, and group therapy to clients of Oaklawn Psychological Services.  Also provides clinical support to other hospital programs as needed.  Participates in outpatient Peer Review meetings and provides consultation to other clinical staff as needed.

Essential Functions:

  • Consistently uses an outward mindset and puts forth exemplary effort in accomplishing his/her goals and objectives in a manner that helps others to achieve their goals and objectives.
  • As assigned, maintain office/clinical care hours adequate to serve the needs of patients.
  • Evaluates patients in a courteous and timely manner and must possess a clear communication style.
  • Assesses, orients, and establishes rapport with clients by conducting client/family intake interviews, coordinating assessment intake and reviewing, summarizing and recording data.
  • Forms diagnostic impressions for mental, emotional, substance abuse disorders according to the most current DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders) criteria.
  • Generates a treatment plan designed to meet assessed needs of client.
  • Conducts individual, family and group therapy using therapeutic interventions appropriate to levels of functioning, diagnosis, treatment plan and motivation.
  • Participates in OPS therapist Peer Review discussing and problem solving own and others’ cases.
  • Monitors on an ongoing basis the suicide risk and safety of clients assigned to his/her outpatient caseload, referring patient to appropriate psychiatric level of care or other hospital or community services as necessary.
  • Participates in and conducts community and professional education programs as requested.
  • Routinely collaborates with treating psychiatrist on shared cases.
  • Reviews and co-signs psychologist test data and reports written by Master’s level psychologists, as needed.
  • Performs other tasks reasonably expected of a clinical psychologist in a Psychiatric Outpatient Program.
  • Maintains and documents patient/provider interactions, as required by licensing and insurance companies, in medical record according to established procedures. Completes all records/charts in a timely manner.
  • Consults with other medical staff providers and support staff, as needed.
  • Attends assigned hospital/medical group meetings as directed or requested by OMG Administration.
  • Serves on committees for appropriate services, if so appointed by OMG Administration.
  • Meets or exceeds Median Patient Satisfaction Score, if applicable.
  • Achieves or exceeds identified Quality Measures, if applicable.
  • Works with support and administrative staff in a positive and constructive manner.
  • Complies with hospital Bylaws, Rules and Regulations, as well as professional conduct requirements.

Minimum Qualifications:  Graduate of an accredited university or college with a Doctoral Degree in Psychology or Counseling (Ph.D., Psy.D., or Ed.D.). Licensed as a Psychologist by the State of Michigan Board of Psychology.  Shall maintain necessary certifications as required by the Hospital.  Must be eligible to be credentialed and contractible on Oaklawn insurance plans and must not be excluded from participation in federal health care programs.   Must be in good standing with the Michigan Board of Psychology and national regulatory bodies, as well as a member in good standing of Oaklawn’s Medical staff.  Handle with Care Basic Certification in nonverbal management required within two (2) months of hire with annual re-certification.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:  Two (2) years of experience in individual and group therapy preferred. Experience in Athena, Cerner, or other EMRs preferred.   Experience with individual therapy in multiple physician practice, physician practice budget and billing processes is strongly preferred.  Knowledge of suicide risk assessment, crisis intervention, and psychiatric treatment in an outpatient, inpatient and partial hospitalization program.  Possess strong verbal and written communication skills, including effective interpersonal skills, ability to manage multiple priorities and strong attention to detail. Ability to multitask, problem solve and take multiple variables into consideration during daily activities.

Working Conditions: General clinical office environment. Potential exposure to infectious diseases.

Physical Requirements: Constantly see/visual acuity, handle/grasp/feel, talk/hear, lift/carry 1 to 25 lbs.  Frequently stand, walk, stoop/kneel/crouch, taste/smell, lift/carry 25 to 49 lbs.  Occasionally lift/carry 50 lbs.
