Scheduler - Pre-Op Teaching

Job Summary:  Responsible for scheduling of surgical procedures and related appointments (CT, MRI, ULS, PAT) with minimal supervision.                     

Essential Functions:

  • Consistently uses an outward mindset and puts forth exemplary effort in accomplishing his/her goals and objectives in a manner that helps others to achieve their goals and objectives.
  • Schedules surgical procedures and schedules outpatient ancillary services based on approved department scheduling procedures. Effectively communicates appointment schedules and other pertinent information to patients and/or physician offices.
  • Collects and assembles orders from physician offices for scheduled procedures.
  • Coordinates with other departments as necessary to confirm scheduling for coverage.
  • Answers multiple phone lines and triages patient scheduling concerns.
  • Works closely with the OR Director and staff to avoid equipment or supply conflicts.
  • Promotes positive relationships with office scheduling, physicians and nursing staff members throughout the entire scheduling process.
  • Ability to prioritize and work independently.
  • Provides relevant data for surgical block utilization.
  • Attends and participates as an active member in assigned committees.

Minimum Qualifications:  High School Diploma or an equivalent. One (1) year experience in health care setting.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:  Proficiency with Windows Operating System, MS Office (Work, Excel, and Outlook) and other clinical applications/database is preferred.  Completion of Medical Terminology course in either a college program or independent coursework.  Proficient typing skills of 50+ wpm.  Knowledge of Practice Management and Word Processing Software.  LEAN experience preferred.   Excellent communication skills are mandatory with a primary focus on customer service. 

Working Conditions: General office and Perioperative Services environment.

Physical Requirements:  Constantly see/visual acuity, talk/hear.  Frequently sit, reach, handle/grasp/feel, lift/carry 1 to 25 lbs.  Occasionally lift/carry 25 to 49 lbs.
