Fleet Service Technician

SUMMARY:

The Fleet Service Technician serves as the checkpoint for incoming and out-going units, takes care of any fleet related complaints pertaining to the units being pre-tripped. Ensures a safe, reliable unit for the oncoming crew. The Fleet Service Technician also helps out in shop area when the pre-tripping of the fleet is completed or while waiting on other units to come in. Assists in running minor road calls in the absence of a Fleet Technician.

 

SPECIAL NOTE:  This job has been designated as a Safety Sensitive Position by MedStar. Public safety, as well as the safety of MedStar employees, requires that the employee in this position be able to perform all essential functions at the highest levels at all times.  Therefore, this position is subject to frequent drug testing and requires reporting of all employee use of High Risk Medications identified by MedStar and certification from the employee’s physician that such medications can be safely used while working.  Because MedStar’s ability to deliver emergency medical response depends on having a workforce that can be reliably scheduled, this job also requires regular and reliable attendance.  This is a high-stress job that requires focus, engagement, and high performance. Failure to meet these requirements will imperil public safety and may compromise the ability of MedStar personnel to provide the highest levels of care in traumatic and life-threatening situations.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Routine pre-trip inspections and log daily
  • Monthly under hood cleaning
  • Weekly fleet mileages
  • Tire mounting / balancing, tire repair
  • Maintain appropriate physical and mental health required to perform the essential functions of this job.
  • Regular and timely physical attendance during assigned work hours.
  • On-call and overtime work required in emergencies and at other times as directed or assigned.

 

ESSENTIAL SKILLS:

  • Identify an unsafe unit and report to fleet technician
  • Complete and file repair orders
  • Demonstrates passion, humility, integrity, a positive attitude, and is mission-driven and self-directed
  • Work effectively as member of the MedStar team.
  • Complete other projects and/or responsibilities as assigned by the Support Services Manager and/or the Chief Operations Officer.
  • Ensure confidentiality of medical and all other discretionary information.

 

JOB DUTIES:

  • Clean and mop the shop, parts room, and empty all trash cans
  • Clean and fuel shop van
  • Stock incoming inventory
  • File repair orders
  • Assist fleet technician with mechanic duties
  • Shuttling of fleet vehicles
  • Assist with minor road calls (jump starts, tire service, accidents)
  • Check all fluid levels, charging system, exterior/interior lighting/lenses, tires, horn/siren, fuel level/cap, doors, windows, handles, high idler, belts/hoses, battery terminals, wipers, state inspection/registration on entire fleet
  • Recycle of scrap metals
  • Exposed to extreme climate conditions/loud noises

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Exposed to various extreme temperatures and weather elements
  • Warehouse/garage environment
  • May be exposed to excessive noise at times

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Lift at least 80 lbs regularly
  • Stand for long periods of time; walk
  • Sit, climb, crawl, bend squat, twist, reach push, pull, and carry
  • Grasping and fine manipulation

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • No experience required
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Valid Texas driver’s license
  • Must not have been excluded by the OIG to Participate in Federally Funded Heath Care Programs

 

 

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • Basic mechanical knowledge
  • Hand tools
