Assistant - Health Information Services Casual

Job Summary: Provides support services for the Health Information Management (HIM) department.

Essential Functions:

  • Consistently uses an outward mindset and puts forth exemplary effort in accomplishing his/her goals and objectives in a manner that helps others to achieve their goals and objectives.
  • Scan patient records.
  • Prepares patient records for batch scanning.
  • Performs quality control and validation for records scanned. Assists patients who walk in requesting records.
  • Responds to telephone requests for patient health information.
  • Assists physicians, offices, and staff with HIM related questions.
  • Combine duplicate medical record numbers.
  • Assists with forms control.

Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Health information experience preferred.  Experience with electronic record systems preferred. Knowledge of electronic record systems, knowledge of Michigan Release of Information laws and standards, basic knowledge of medical terminology, skill in interpersonal relationships, skill in accessing prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands, skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications.

Working Conditions:  Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available.

Physical Requirements: Constantly sit, reach, see/visual acuity, talk/hear.  Frequently handle/grasp/feel, bend/twist, stoop/kneel/crouch, lift/carry 1 to 25 lbs.
