Assistant - Materials Management

Job Summary: Plans, organizes, and monitors the receiving, storage, and distribution of all items received either from suppliers or production shops ensuring a smooth and consistent operation so parts and supplies are located and distributed to proper departments in an effective and efficient manner as needed to satisfy internal and external customer requirements.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Consistently uses an outward mindset and puts forth exemplary effort in accomplishing his/her goals and objectives in a manner that helps others to achieve their goals and objectives.
  • Performs shipping and receiving duties.
  • Supports the shipment of goods produced and the received goods and supplies to be used in or to aid in the production/storage of goods destined for sale to our customer base.
  • Responsible to make arrangements for pick-up by the carrier specified on the customers’ purchase orders which are conveyed to the shipping clerk by final inspection via the shipping instructions.
  • Must report defective materials or questionable conditions to the department supervisor.
  • Responsible for keeping an adequate supply of shipping materials on hand at all times.
  • Forward requisition for shipping materials to the Department Manager for approval.
  • Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and follow prescribed safety regulations.
  • Make pick-ups and deliveries to our suppliers for parts and raw materials using a company van.

Minimum Qualifications:  High school diploma and one (1) year experience in commercial shipping and receiving. A valid driver’s license in the state of Michigan and able to be covered on Oaklawn’s vehicle insurance.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:  Capable of estimating weight and calculating the cost of shipping. Familiar with proper packaging methods and able to interpret visual aids used to convey specific packaging requirements. Familiar with most common material handling equipment. Experience with UPS/FEDEX online software is desirable. Required to read and write English, follow verbal instructions and use simple math. Must have a good driving record.

Working Conditions:  May be exposed to hazardous materials.  Required to drive a vehicle in all kinds of weather.

 

Physical Requirements:   Constantly stand, walk, reach, see/visual acuity, handle/grasp/feel, bend/twist, stoop/kneel/crouch, talk/hear, lift/carry 1 to 25 lbs.  Frequently sit, push/pull, lift/carry 25 to 49 lbs.  Occasionally lift/carry 50+ lbs.
