JOB TITLE:               Fleet Technician I

REPORTS TO:           Fleet Supervisor

FLSA CLASS:            Non-Exempt

SALARY RANGE:            $18.22 - $21.86 (offers based on applicable experience)

SUMMARY:

The Fleet Technician’s primary task is to provide a safe, reliable unit to enable the field crews to perform their job. This position interacts with all other operational departments; Supply, Dispatch and the Field. The Fleet Technician serves as a contact for field crews with fleet related issues. On-Call Duties are a part of a daily routine schedule. This position requires regular Supervision.

 

SPECIAL NOTE:  This job has been designated as a Safety Sensitive Position by MedStar. Public safety, as well as the safety of MedStar employees, requires that the employee in this position be able to perform all essential functions at the highest levels at all times.  Therefore, this position is subject to frequent drug testing and requires reporting of all employee use of High Risk Medications identified by MedStar and certification from the employee’s physician that such medications can be safely used while working.  Because MedStar’s ability to deliver emergency medical response depends on having a workforce that can be reliably scheduled, this job also requires regular and reliable attendance.  This is a high-stress job that requires focus, engagement, and high performance in traumatic, physically demanding, emotionally charged, and life-threatening situations.  The position involves exposure to serious and graphic injury to adults and children, including death and dismemberment.  A high level of physical, mental, and emotional health is an essential requirement.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Through understanding of all systems onboard the MICU
  • Routine Preventative Maintenance
  • Fixing shop equipment as needed
  • Maintain appropriate physical and mental health required to perform the essential functions of this job.
  • Regular and timely physical attendance during assigned work hours.
  • On-call and overtime work required in emergencies and at other times as directed or assigned.

 

ESSENTIAL SKILLS:

  • Identify an unsafe unit and report to fleet technician
  • Complete and file repair orders

  • Work effectively as member of the MedStar team.
  • Complete other projects and/or responsibilities as assigned by the Support Services Manager and/or the Chief Operations Officer.
  • Ensure confidentiality of medical and all other discretionary information.

 

JOB DUTIES:

Fleet Technician Responsibilities

  • On-Call duties
  • Pretripping of fleet as needed

 

Preventative Maintenance

  • Completion of APM Checklist/Work Orders.
  • Understanding all Preventive Maintenance Procedures: A, B and CPMs.
  • Component/System understanding: Air Conditioning, Brakes, Engine, Transmission,
  • Suspension and Steering, Electrical, Fuel, Lubrication, and Differentials.

 

On-Call Responsibilities

  • Respond to any unit with fleet related problems, or units involved in accident.
  • Perform roadside repairs on fleet equipment in a safe and timely manner.
  • Mapsco Reading
  • Exposed to weather elements
  • Documentation of all road calls

 

Fleet Repairs

  • Perform routine repairs, which may consist of major/minor repair procedures.
  • Generate and complete repair orders that correspond with work being performed.

 

Other:

  • Answer service desk phone calls
  • Assist in restocking inventory
  • Contribute to a positive work environment
  • Interaction with other Fleet Personnel
  • Minimize waste
  • Familiarized with MSDS system
  • Keep certifications current
  • Keep work area clean
  • Knowledge and use of proper safety equipment at all times.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Exposed to various extreme temperatures and weather elements
  • Warehouse/garage environment
  • May be exposed to excessive noise at times

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Lift at least 80 lbs regularly
  • Stand for long periods of time; walk
  • Sit, climb, crawl, bend squat, twist, reach push, pull, and carry
  • Grasping and fine manipulation

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • At least two (2) years’ experience in fleet or emergency vehicle repair and preventative maintenance, all to include on electrical systems, air conditioning systems, brakes, suspension, transmissions, and engines
  • Must possess adequate amount of tools to perform preventative maintenance (PM) and routine repairs
  • Knowledge of PM procedures and general repair practices
  • General Diagnostic capabilities a necessity
  • Valid Texas driver’s license

 

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • Diesel engine/auto electrical experience
  • Certifications strongly preferred (ASE/ EVT)
  • Automotive Fundamentals: air conditioning, steering/suspension, brakes, engine/transmissions, basic electrical
  • Chevy online training
