Job Summary: The primary purpose of this position is to assist customers with their health care needs by filling prescriptions, providing clinical services and excellent customer service while supervising pharmacy technicians. Actively participates in creating an environment that fosters patient, family, provider, and employee satisfaction. The ideal candidate for this position is detail-oriented, able to multitask, and enjoys working with customers.
Essential Functions:

- Perform all functions of a staff pharmacist and act as a role model for the pharmacy team; responds to customer inquiries timely and appropriately.
- Responsible for implementing pharmacy-related initiatives to enhance services in our communities.
- Coordinates daily outpatient pharmacy department staff scheduling and activities.
- Develops and maintains positive relationships with other healthcare professionals.
- Develops department budget and financial goals.
- Become proficient in all functions of the ScriptPro computer system and any other system needed for outpatient operations, including McKesson, Cerner, and Athena.
- Stay current with rules and regulations of the prescription insurance industry. Be able to provide any information and materials necessary for credentialing and re-credentialing when required. Become familiar with proper billing, audits, and reconciliation.
- Comply with HIPAA and all other applicable federal and state laws and regulations.
- Stay up-do-date on all aspects of the 340B Program. Work with Oaklawn’s 340B Analyst to keep current on the rules and regulations to reduce audit risk involving the 340B Program. Understand product pricing, eligibility of providers, patient, and prescription eligibility, etc., to maximize the 340B Program.
- Coordinate and provide prescription delivery service as needed.
- Responsible for all inventory-related activities including controlled substance recordkeeping, removal of outdated items from stock, preparing purchase orders, receiving deliveries, and monitoring stock levels to ensure uninterrupted service for patients.
- Be an important member of the healthcare team by acting as a reference for pricing, eligibility, availability, and other aspects of obtaining medication for patients, including alternatives to prior authorizations, proper insurance billing, outpatient dosing, etc.
- Oaklawn Pharmacy is the primary source for the medication needs of Oaklawn Hospice patients. The outpatient pharmacist should become familiar with all aspects of palliative care. This includes the basic mission of our hospice care, the goals and services provided, and the special needs of our hospice patients.
- Provide monthly reports to certain departments, including Human Resources, Finance, etc.
- Oversee proper storage of prescription records and information in an orderly and retrievable form as required by the Federal Government, State of Michigan, and PBMs (pharmacy benefit managers).
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree (BS/BA) in Pharmacy or Doctoral degree (PHARM.D.). Must be a Licensed Registered Pharmacist in Michigan. One (1) year Retail pharmacy experience required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Prior management experience and Immunization Certification preferred. Experienced with pharmaceutical finances. Excellent communication and customer service skills. Detail-oriented and reliable. Familiar with Microsoft 365 and retail pharmacy software systems.
Working Conditions: Potentially exposed to infectious diseases and hazardous material. Must wear appropriate personal protective equipment as required.
Physical Requirements: Constantly stand, walk, reach, see/visual acuity, handle/grasp/feel, talk/hear, lift/carry 1 to 25 lbs. Frequently push/pull, bend/twist, stoop/kneel/crouch, lift/carry 25 to 49 lbs. Occasionally lift/carry 50+ lbs.
