Network and Infosec Engineer

SUMMARY:

Performs design, documentation, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of equipment and software related to data and voice communications. The role also performs design, documentation, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of multiple highly technical security solutions and processes related to the protection of MedStar’s information assets.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Ensure customer support requests are completed quickly and efficiently.
  • Being available for on-call and overtime work required in emergencies and at other times as directed or assigned.
  • Maintain appropriate physical and mental health required to perform the essential functions of this job.
  • Regular and timely physical attendance during assigned work hours.

JOB DUTIES:

Information Security

  • Assess, investigate, and document vulnerability and risk to information assets using risk assessment, vulnerability scanning and analysis, and validation through specifically authorized penetration testing
  • Respond to information security incidents, including suspicious events, malware, alerts, and alarms following the IT security incident handling procedure
  • Follow proper evidence collection, handling, security, and destruction processes related to information security incidents
  • Tune, maintain, and document information security controls
  • Maintain confidentiality with regard to the information being processed, stored or accessed on the network.
  • Lead security operations functions for the department

Network Administration

  • Design, document, and implement data and voice network solutions driven by business requirements and needs
  • Maintain and modify enterprise network design as needed to meet changing business requirements
  • Design, implement, and maintain complex network technologies in a core, access, distribution model
  • Design, implement, and maintain VOIP phone system
  • Assess network performance to determine whether adjustments need to be made, and to determine where changes will need to be made in the future.

General Functions

  • Provide support to end users via phone, email, remote tools, and/or in person for hardware, software and operating system issues
  • Creates and executes systems maintenance plans
  • Registers incidents, categorizes, determines supportability
  • Implements and maintains Microsoft System Center functionality
  • Documents incidents, problems, change, and releases according to ITIL standards
  • Provide assistance as needed in projects, major initiatives, and systems rollouts
  • Write technical instruction documentation for end users and other IT Support personnel
  • Work with vendors as required to drive technical solutions
  • Executes tasks that are not well defined, requiring a deeper level of knowledge
  • Provide training as needed to end users and other IT personnel
  • Other duties as assigned, either in or out of job classification.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Primarily in air conditioned office environment with occasional work on technology in ambulances outdoors
  • Occasional overtime requirements

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Sit for extended periods of time
  • Walk, stand, bend, squat, twist and reach
  • Simple grasping and fine manipulation
  • Extended keyboarding
  • Lift up to 35lbs

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum 4 years of experience in network or infosec related field
  • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP)
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field
  • ITIL V3 Foundations knowledge and training.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, HITECH, and PCI information security regulations
  • Understanding of risk assessment, vulnerability and penetration testing
  • Detailed knowledge of security assessment and testing as well as security operations
  • Detailed knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Linux operating systems (Server and client) to include but not limited to understanding operating system installation, trouble shooting techniques, systems documentation and user interface.
  • Experience with malware analysis, SIEM tools, Firewall, content filtering, 802.1x authentication, IDS/IPS, and DLP
  • Regular sustained concentration and a high degree of fine finger or hand dexterity

 

Preferred Requirements:

  • CompTIA Project or equivalent
  • Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE)
  • Security , CEH, OSCP, CHFI, CRISC, GSEC or other similar information security certifications
  • ITIL V3 Foundations Certification
